Start Learning West Coast Swing Here

Level 1 is the place to start your west coast swing journey. We dance to a wide variety of music and have a lot of fun doing so!

During the four week series of classes you will learn concepts and movements that serve as the foundation for west coast swing. These concepts are important to grasp and understand as you continue to learn and explore west coast swing.

We strongly suggest that new dancers go through Level 1 at least twice.

The series of classes repeats every month and you are welcome to join at any time.

Continuing to Learn West Coast Swing

Level 2 is where you start to build upon the good foundation you learned in Level 1. In Level 2 we will continue to reinforce concepts from Level 1, as well as introduce a new concept in new movements!

Level 2 is an 8 week series of classes divided into Part A and Part B. You may join the series at any point provided you have a strong understanding of the concepts and movements learned in Level 1.

If you do not know the concepts and movements in Level 1, we encourage you to learn them as a good foundation will lead to success in Level 2.

We strongly encourage all dancers go through Level  2 at least twice.

Level 2 - Part A
  • Week 1 - Whip
  • Week 2 - Inside turn, starter step with inside turn
  • Week 3 - Free spin, sugar tuck variation with right hand over
  • Week 4 - Side passes with hand change, cape/sweetheart
Level 2 - Part B
  • Week 1 - Left side pass
  • Week 2 - Right side pass
  • Week 3 - Sugar push and sugar tuck
  • Week 4 - Starter step with left side pass

Expanding Your West Coast Swing

In Level 3 we will continue to reinforce concepts, as well as introduce new movements and variations of previously learned material, from Level 1 and 2!

Level 3 is a 12 week series of classes divided into Part A, Part B, and Part C. You may join the series at any point provided you have a strong understanding of the concepts and movements learned in Level 1 and Level 2.

If you are not sure how the concepts apply to each movement from Series 1 and Series 2, we encourage you to learn them prior to taking Level 3. A good foundation will lead to success in Level 3. Those that are attending Series 3 should be dancing west coast swing regularly and understand base concepts and movements naturally and instinctively.

Level 3 - Part B
  • Week 1 - Whip variations
  • Week 2 - Cape/sweetheart variations
  • Week 3 - Moving into and out of closed
  • Week 4 - Review of Part B weeks 1-3

Creativity, styling, musicality, and more

The specialty class is designed for those dancers looking to add new dynamics to a strong understanding of the base movements of west coast swing. You will be challenged and pushed in this class.

Provided you believe you meet the suggested criteria, you are welcome to join this class at any time.

You should have a strong knowledge of:

  • Level 2 - Movements and Concepts
  • Level 3 - Movements and Concepts
Weekly Sunday night schedule:
  • 5:00 pm - Level 2
  • 5:00 pm - Level 3
  • 6:00 pm - Level 1 - Start learning west coast swing here
  • 6:00 pm - Specialty Class
  • 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm - Dancing and fun
Costs:
  • One leveled class: $10 ASDC members, $15 non-members (includes dance)
  • Specialty class: $12 ASDC members, $17 non-members (includes dance)
  • Two classes: $20 ASDC members, $30 non-members (includes dance)
  • Dance only: $5 ASDC members, $10 non-members
